First Band Blog! Anyone out there as excited as me (White-Drummer-Webguy)? Anyone out there as close to dork-dum as me?
Anyway, welcome to The Deck Band blog!
Our Rock Blog will be a weekly installment for the most part. Here you can read up on all the interesting/dopey/silly things that come up during our weekly practices, ideas and gigs we are contemplating, and a general insiders look at the fun cover band from South Jersey.
This week we agreed to kick our website up a notch. We purchased our own domain (deckband.com), transferred our old site to the new one, and rolled the dice. So far so good.
We are also currently looking in to upgrading our equipment, something we really have no idea about. Kev and Whitey have been talking to a few music store experts, trying to figure out what best suits our needs. We have come to the conclusion that we will need a 2nd set of bottom feeling woofer speakers, a power amp, and a mixing board. First up, looking for a decent pair of subwoofers. This may come as early as Saturday, but who knows.
In case you all didn't get the email, we will also be playing next at TRIOS TAVERN in Williamstown, April 28th @ 9:00 sharp. I mistakenly said Trios was on the White Horse Pike. I lied. It's on the Black Horse Pike, more on that later.
Practice Notes: 3.5.07
Each week after practice, I (Whitey) usually sends out an email confirming the next practice, and the songs to be played. Our last practice looked like this...
I Want You to Want Me
Who Says you can't go Home
Brown Sugar
Break
(Record)
Jet Airliner
Come and Play
White Wedding
Breakup Song
Break
Just What I Needed
Low
You Shook Me
The Middle
The Bon Jovi tune made some nice progress. TC is playing a couple of signature riffs on the KORG keyboard. TC and I are sorting out the lyric arrangement, and we worked on tightening up the ending. So far so good, its gonna be a nice song, but is tougher then I thought it would be when I suggested it.
JR made some nice strides on The Middle, an old song we are reintroducing. Whitey had a tough time transferring the playing of it on his Pearl set, to the Rolands. He's an ass. Two others we are bringing back are Low and You Shook Me by AC/DC. For only playing them together twice, they are gonna be good ones too.
Come and Play is gonna rock you all out of your shoes. Just need to better come to grips with the rapping lyrics, and that baby is ready for publication. Whitey's wife Deneen says she hates it, let's hope you all don't! I think she will be won over when it comes out live.
Last practice was a bit short as we didn't begin til 7:00, and TC had an early flight Tuesday morning. We got thru everything though, and will be back in Carey's Pub next Saturday for a mattinee session.
So there you have it, Blog #1. More coming each week as I said, so check back often.
