Hey Everybody!

Just wanted to thank everyone for coming out to our last show at Ott’s Tavern.  While we didn’t have our biggest crowd for the event, we were really happy to see some new faces, and hope that everyone had a good time.  Overall, the band was pretty upbeat about the night, the way we played, and again offer our thanks to Steve, who did a great job with the sound and made the night a lot easier.

The practice before the Friday night out was dedicated to tuning up a handful of songs throughout the set list of roughly 40 or so tunes.  This particular grouping was put together by Whitey, who wanted to aid the band by incorporating several songs right off the bat that seem to get the band warmed up and in an early groove.  From that standpoint, we think it worked.

Usually our sets are designed to have the more rock oriented songs in the first set or so, hoping that after a few brewskis by the crowd, the danceable stuff midway through the night gets you all up and dancing (if that’s your bag, baby).  On this night, it appeared that the Ott’s faithful were more into dancing early.  Every night is different, and as well as you plan things out, you just never know.

Two nights back we had our first practice since the weekend.  We decided to see how the new songs we’ve selected might sound, so we busted them out.  First up though, we tried out Johnny Be Good.  It’s a song we had on the set list, but decided to pass on it Friday night to make sure it was cool.  Wednesday night, it seemed pretty cool.

Hey Girl was another one we’ve been messing around with for a couple of months now.  We seem to make progress here and there, but really haven’t nailed it down.  For those astute readers of this column, there’s a good chance that tune may not be for us.  We will give it another shot at next practice, but at least in this writer’s opinion, if it isn’t real close to ‘publication’ by then, I say let’s move on.  There’s only so much effort you want to give any song, this could fit into that category.

We did crank out “Bang a Drum” (which is gonna work out well), End of the World (ditto), Banditos (heavy potential, pretty tricky though), and Have a Nice Day (ditto).  Overall, we’re excited about the new additions, and will work diligently to get them ready for our next currently scheduled event, Ott’s Tavern on November 3rd.

Check back next week for more news, there’s always something brewing!
