The Deck Band... Rockin' and Bloggin' South Jersey one party at at time!
Entry for October 11, 2007

Even though our next live outing is still 3-4 weeks away, The Deck Band had a pretty good second week of October.

With TC in St. Kitts searching for new fans, JR, Whitey, and Kev met at Whitey’s Pub to hopefully put the finishing touches on what is currently our first original.  The song was inspired by a really sweet bass riff Murph came up with.  At a September practice the song was unveiled, with Whitey and JR joining in with their respective thoughts.  A date was set for the Eagles vs. Jets pre-game show to have a copy ready, and for JR to use the song underneath his Around the NFL segment on 94 WYSP.  It has been named “Destination Arizona”.

At the Wednesday session, all eyes were on JR.  The previous week, Kev wrote out the format, and recorded his riff via the metronome.  A few days later, Whitey laid down the drum track, so all that was needed was JR’s axe.  TC will hopefully add some keys or Korg as the song progresses.  What came out of the recording session (which by the way none of us are experts in) was pretty solid, and tight enough for the broadcast to over 500,000 faithful Sunday listeners.  We will get a copy of the song and put it on the site asap.

Wednesday also marked the final touches of our song votes for new material.  Here’s what was sent for consideration for our latest vote…

Whitey:  Pretenders - Middle of the Road, Pink Floyd - The Wall, Beatles – Help, Buckcherry – Everything, Pearl Jam - Better Man.

Tom:  Long Way Down - Goo Goo Dolls, Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young, Rock Star – Nickelback, Foo Fighters - Times Like These, Rock n' Roll - Led Zep.

John:  Day Tripper – Beatles, Woman in Love – Tom Petty, Let it Ride - BTO, Gimmie Shelter – Stones, Blvd of Broken Dreams – Green Day.

Kevin: (2 from this list), Strange Brew – Cream, Sweet Jane - Lou Reed, Next 2 you – Buckcherry, Spider Man – Ramones, Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin, Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana, Crazy Little Thing Called Love – Queen, Take It Off - The Donnas.

So there you have it.  A radio debut, new music, and hopefully an ever growing fan base in St. Kitts.  Not a bad week at all.

Don’t forget, our next date is Friday November 3rd, at Ott’s Tavern-  9:00 pm sharp!
