A bittersweet week of music was launched early this week, as the Deck Band prepared Tuesday night for their final practice prior to heading out to Ott’s Tavern this Friday, 11.02.2007.  Heavy hearts filed into Carey’s Irish Pub for practice at 6:00 pm.

     For those outside the Tweed Farms/Bunco/Ski Trash/Deckheads realm, we are very sad to announce the passing of our friend Michael Devenny, known to most of us as “Vinnie”.

     Vinnie, along with longtime companion “Jenny Girl” was a band supporter since our inception.  His passing on Sunday during a scuba certification exercise was a complete shock to us all.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and all those that were lucky enough to be a part of his life.  Both he and Jenny are two of the most fun-loving people you’d ever come across.

     On Friday evening it will be difficult to look out over the crowd and not see Vinnie.  The big fella always with a smile on his face, cool brew in hand, and surrounded by Jenny, Tina, Rita, Michelle and countless other Deckheads was a staple at our shows.

     We will give it our all though, knowing that Vinnie’s spirit will be there with us.  Now he just has a much better seat.
