The Deck Band... Rockin' and Bloggin' South Jersey one party at at time!
Thoughts from November

“Been a long time since we blogged and rolled”

The month of November started off in high gear, as the band put together four solid sets at Ott’s Tavern on that first Friday, and hopefully initiated a new group of patrons to our style of fun.  While we didn’t have our A crowd present, the folks at Ott’s seemed to enjoy the set list and stayed late into the evening.  For those that missed it, check out the pictures from that night.

Whitey took the following week off to spend some QT with the family unit down in SW Florida at Cape Coral.  Upon his return, the boys began work on some new tunes.  Gimmie Shelter by the Stones and Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen are the first two to tackle.  We also put ACDC’s You Shook Me back on the list, and are anticipating reviving Lit’s Own Worse Enemy as well.

This past weekend, the foursome enjoyed a great night of music with Shaw-Blades in Collingswood, NJ.  For anyone that isn’t familiar with them, they are Jack Blades of Night Ranger and Damn Yankees, and Tommy Shaw of Styx and Damn Yankees.  An intimate acoustic night, with THE best vocals as least this writer had ever heard live.  Right up there with Crosby, Stills, and Nash from way back in the day.  This past spring they put out a cover LP called Influences.  If you haven’t heard it yet, buy yourself a little Christmas present and check it out.  You won’t be disappointed.

Later that night, the band caught a few sets from a local band.  While the group had tons of energy, great toys, and an awesome following, something made us think.  Is the piping in of the cover tunes music underneath, while you are playing cheating?  While the crowd didn’t seem to notice nor mind, is that somewhere we ought to be pointing?

More on those thoughts down the road.  Many thanks to Shaw-Blades again.  The music was only outdone by the stories and comradery those two shared.

Two gigs booked for December, with a potential third in the works.  Next public outing will be Ott’s Tavern, on  Friday December Twenty-First.  New black long-sleeved T-shirts for sale.  They came out really cool, only $10.
