The Deck Band... Rockin' and Bloggin' South Jersey one party at at time!
Entry for February 17, 2008- The Little Spot

The Deck Band kicked off 2008 at The Little Spot, and had a blast.  Club manager Heather hooked us up with cool reminder cards earlier in the week, had a most awesome banner made for us, and even moved the main pool table over so we could debut playing in a new section of the bar.  Everything worked out great; with a good crowd on hand, some snappy giveaways, and guest performers as well.  Kudos to “Team Kens”.

Kenny Denenny made his public bass playing debut during Low, Smells Like Teen Spirit, and Bang a Gong.  We also had another Ken join us for some guitar work on a couple of tunes, most notably a wall of sound from all parties during Gimmie Shelter.

Hats off to both Rene who sang Take It Easy with the band, and Little Spot John, who cranked out a memorable rendition of STP’s Interstate Love Song deep into the evening.

New material unleashed on the betting public Saturday night included Long Way Down by the Goo Goo Dolls, Tom Petty’s American Girl, Led Zep’s Houses of the Holy, and we even ad libbed Lynerd Skinner’s Sweet Home Alabama, demanded upon us by the tall and intoxicated Serbian dude.

Once again, many thanks to Heather for setting us up and taking good care of the Deck Band on a cold night in February.  We look forward to our next visit with our compadres in Somerdale.

Don’t forget, we jump right back into the fire next week at Trio’s Tavern in Williamstown.  Hope to see you all there.  Bring your pipes, and you just might be able to join TC in fronting the Deck Band, as we rock South Jersey one party at a time…
