Williamstown was rockin' on Saturday night, February 23rd as the Deck Band made their 2nd start of the new season in as many weeks.
The Trio's Tavern hosted the party this time out, and a really nice crowd was on hand. The band hadn't played at Joe Trio's pub since the summertime, and it was nice to see everyone again.
The first set of ten tunes went well, although the rythm section was overly loud and adjustments were made during the break. Hey, we're still kinda new at this, but learn from every mistake! We have compiled quite a nice textbook on what not to do!
The night was kicked off by a Werewolves of London sound check, followed by the 70's classic Don't Fear the Reaper. The opening set featured Kenny Denenny on Bass guitar, with Murph sliding over to rythm guitar duties. Ken played admirably in front of a Ken favoring crowd to Low, and then into Bang a Gong. The crowd went wild!
Banditos and new song American Girl kicked off the 2nd set, while White Wedding was well received as well. We finished with a blazing version of our original instrumental Destination Arizona tune, complete with Whitey playing TC's Miller Lite bottle, then thumb!
Smells Like Teen Spirit raised the Trio's roof with Kenny back on bass to begin the 2nd half of the show. Some Bon Jovi followed, some Stones, some very attractive ladies dancing, all built the third set to a massive creshendo.
Just past midnight, the Deck Band began the final set of the evening. Houses of the Holy (a new tune for us) continues to amaze the band with its popularity. The Boys are Back in Town, a very tricky song for several months during practice has seemed to hit its stride, and also sounded really tight. We finished the evening with what has become our signature closing song. "One" by U2. From the drummers vantage point, it sounded most awesome.
Overall, the Deck Band was very happy with the Saturday performance. Good vibes, nice comments, and a couple of lessons learned once again. Special thanks to those who came out for the show, and also to those that stayed with the band throughout the evening. The Kenny crew was awesome once again. Special-special thanks to Fredo and Becky for traveling from New Hope, PA for a night out in Williamstown NJ. We all figured you won the fans of the night prize by traveling the furthest.
Oh yeah, and our camera snapping, TC dancing, nearly jacket giving away blonde lady friend from Flicker. Always good to see you as well, can't wait to see the photos!
Remember, back to Joe Trio's on Saturday March 15th. Should be a crazy night, with a pub crawl starting AND ending on the Black Horse Pike. One you won't want to miss!
