The Deck Band... Rockin' and Bloggin' South Jersey one party at at time!
Entry for April 3, 2008

At the beginning of the year, the band really hadn't yet focused on 2008 dates.  However, in the short span of just over two months (and while taking the entire month of January off to boot), the Deck Band has already played three gigs with three on the way.  JoeTrio invited the Williamstown based crew back for their third night of the gig year.  Jot down April 26th (Saturday) for another rockin' set in our hometown pub on the Black Horse Pike.

Tommy was able to get our proverbial ‘foots’ in the door at a completely new venue, Yesterday's in Marmora, NJ. The bands first performance at a 'shore' club is set

for Kentucky Derby night, Saturday May 3rd.  With back-to-back weekends, it will be a good time to get a feel for the Kevin Murphy powered set list.

Ott's on the Green, always a band favorite is the place for our following date.  Grab a pen and make a note of Saturday May 31st for Ott's in Washington Township.  The official kick off of the summertime Deck Band season.

We are currently looking into playing as far West as Drexell Hill, PA, and on the Atlantic City boardwark as well.  How cool would it be to have the kids on the beach, and the adult units basking in the sun, toes in sand, beverage in hand for a weekend day trip?  We think that would be da’ bomb.

Our weekly practice sessions are going well, and as always one of the highlights of the week.  Kenny D has been joining us and working on his craft.  Kev just picked up a new bass rig.  An American made Fender with a jazz neck, sunburst orange.  Easily the most colorful thing he owns.

Whitey also recently upgraded his gear.  He is saying goodbye to his trusty red wine Pearl kit, and hello to a sweet natural oak finish Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage set, complete with Remo Weatherking Pinstripe heads.

New songs in the works include JR on his 12-String with Tom Petty's Runnin' Down a Dream, and the Allman Brothers Melissa.  Four other new tunes are patiently waiting in the batters circle as well, but you'll just have to snoop around the site here to find out what they will be.

As always, thanks for stopping in.  We look forward to seeing you all at some of our next parties.

Rock on Garths,

The Deck Band
