The Deck Band... Rockin' and Bloggin' South Jersey one party at at time!
Entry for August 7, 2008
The Summer Breeze

The Deck Band is having a great summer musically, and is looking forward to a strong finish of the 2008 playing season.  It's been so long since the beginning of the year, we've forgotten what our tour this year was even called.  With one month to go before school starts up again, the foursome have three gigs lined up, with strong potentials at Yesterdays, Trio's Tavern, and the Golden Nugget for the month of September and beyond to discuss.

For those that are unaware, we will be playing the private Cathie Shea birthday party on August 9th in Marlton, poolside and all.  The following week we will be celebrating Heather's sister's birthday at the Little Spot in Somerdale.  That was a date that opened up due to some scheduling conflicts at Yesterdays (big professional surfing week down there in Marmora), and we are more than happy to oblige.  At the end of the month, the band will be back at Ott's Tavern on the Green, with full professional sound thanks to Kenny Chan and Paradigm Music Management.  That could be our final appearance of the year at Ott's, but you never know when offers make themselves available.

Over the summertime some of you may have caught the act on Wednesday nights at Ott's.  That presented some unique challenges for the band for a few reasons.  For one, on both occasions TC had to be out of town for business.  This meant a lot more vocals from JR and Whitey.  Secondly, the band had to put together set lists that were less driving and more background-esk.  Thirdly it meant that Murph had to pick up a number of filler songs quickly on the bass, and even played acoustic guitar on a handful of songs as well.  Overall, we thought we met the challenge (and the weather) and are better off for it down the road with an expanded skill set.

In late September we will be playing our first Beef N Beer in Voorhees, NJ.  For ticket information check out the home page.

We've done a lot so far this summer and still have a lot more playing to go.  As always, we deeply appreciate everyone who comes out and supports the band.  Your energy is our energy.  Please continue to let us know what we can do to make your evenings with the Deck Band a unique and fun experience.
