The Deck Band... Rockin' and Bloggin' South Jersey one party at at time!
Entry for March 19, 2009

Well, well, well.  Looks like we've got ourselves some serious talent and buzz these days.  For those that joined us at Ott's, as always we appreciate you coming out and spending your time (and often babysitter credits) for a night out.  We aims to please, and think March 14th was a 'win-win' for everyone.

Many thanks to Brian Hannigan and Kenny Chann.  Brian as you probably know by now, is our hired hand for big gigs.  He plays sick guitar, but really doesn't have time to commit to a band full-time.  In April he will be tying the knot, and we wish him nothing but the best during his exciting time coming up.  Hopefully he will re-join us for our return visit to Ott's in June.

Kenny Chann once again did a great job.  Ott's is a tough place soundwise, with people coming and going throughout the night, and a half-wall directly in front of our setup which can serve as a pitchback for sound on different songs.  Nobody works harder for your band, and actually cares about the performance as much as Kenny does.  Plus, he hauls a ton of shit every time out.  For anyone who ever set up or broke down that much gear, it isn't a job for the meek.

On to Josie and her crew.  Job well done!  Evidently Josie was pretty excited about re-emerging on the music scene, roughly 20 years after her last gig.  She sang great, moved well when the spotlight wasn't on her (which often times can be the most difficult thing for singers who don't have the crutch of an instrument to hang on to), and looked pretty damn good as well.  Not that the rest of the band are a bunch of quzi-motos, but its never a bad thing to have a nice visual appearance fronting the group.

The Deck Band is honored to be playing a special benefit Saturday March 21st in Deptford NJ.  Another opoortunity to make strides as a four piece band once again, work our sound, haul our gear, and hopefully convert some new fans into DeckHeads.  We plan on finishing up some recordings to post on the site, and heavily promote the band in the upcoming weeks to local establishments.  For at least this writer (who finds himself out of work for the first time in over 20 years), I'd like to play out 2-3 times a month to build our base, get tight, and keep rockin' South Jersey- one party at a time...
