Hey Guys, thanks for stopping in.; Let me ask you all the same question right off the bat.;
What are each of your Top Three Bands of all time?
Editor: They all shout at the same time, so for the purpose of keeping our sanity, here's
what they said...
Chris U2 Springsteen The Police
|
Kevin SRV Rolling Stones Buddy Guy
|
Special thanks to the very awesome rocktoons.com You gotta check them out!
Along those same lines, what are the top three CD's in your car's player right now. Why
are they good in your opinion?
Kevin:The first two are pretty easy. #1 is Texas Flood - SRV . #2 would be the Rolling
Stones Sticky Fingers. For a number three, it changes constantly - currently, I'm listening
to Calling Card, The Story Book, and Blueprint by Rory Gallagher.
Whitey: Man, so many to choose from. Luckily for me, I already have a list for such
occassions (Whitey's Favorite LP's).; To save you the trouble though, I would rank the
three Born to Run, by Bruce Springsteen.; I'm a Jersey guy, and this LP is timeless with
gritty Jersey Shore lyrics. Next I'd say would be Syncronicity by the Police. I got this in the
summer of 83' and nearly drove my college roommate crazy by playing it over and over.
Third, I'll stay in my college years and nominate U2's Joshua Tree.; If I were looking for a
live sleeper, how about Billy Joel's Songs in the Attic?
What about actual musicians?; Anyone out there that you really like, or think your style
kinda mirrors?
Whitey: Whenever I think of a great drummer, I think of Stewart Copeland of the
Police. He is so quick, and played offbeat stuff better than anyone. The more I listen to
Billy Joel, the more I think my style (and that is style, NOT close to ability) is remeniscent
of Liberty DeVitto.; He is the master of the power toms.; A drummers style I think I have
resemblences to is Steve Jordan (vintage David Letterman band black dude). He always
looked like he was having more fun than anybody.; I like that schtick...
How about you Murph? I know your a big Stevie Ray Vaughn fan on the guitar, any
thought to some of the great bassists?
Frankly, I'm not good enough to compare to anyone.
Well guys, thanks for the few minutes, and good luck with your project.; It's bands like
yours that keep the spirit of music alive.; Rock the Pub next month and we'll catch you
down the road.

More to come on this continuing story...
TC:
Every musician has been influenced by somebody. Most likely, their playing is a combination of influences from many different artists or just people in general. Recently, an entry level intern at Magazine caught up with the foursome of Deck. Here's a look at what went down...

John Beatles Beach Boys Moody Blues
|

John: Rubber Soul (the Lennon/McCartney/Harrison harmonies at their best with an
accoustic backdrop), .does it get any better? Good Vibrations - Beach Boys (for the most
part a greatest hits disc but with a heavy influx of Pet Sounds tunes and my favorite BB's
tune ever "Sail on Sailor"), just all around feel good music for a Beach Boy from way
back. "Hollywood Hills" Beyond the Beach (my daughter never gets tired of hearing "Yittle
bond Hannah Hood" peeze Daddy ..peeze peeze one more time?.
Thanks John, ah, er...
JR Contnues:
"Hard Promises" Tom Petty (bought it for the song "Woman in Love"), but I've always
credited Petty for being a major part of rescuing the world from the Disco 70's). "Days of
Future Passed" Moodies (Nights in White Satin has been my favorite song since I heard it
for the first time, (and Tuesday Afternoon has a special meaning as well. It reminds me of
the day my daughter was born) "Thank You" Duran Duran. A brilliant lesson in how to
cover someone elses material...change the essence and make it your own (they cover
Crystal SHip (Doors) Watching the Detectives/ Lay lady Lay/ and Led Zep's Thank you to
name a few and they're amazing.
